Programming Guidelines

The gifted and talented program will offer opportunities to students in the regular school curriculum as well as in the extra-curricular program. In the regular curriculum flexible pacing or acceleration, differentiated programming, enrichment, advanced placement courses and the youth options program will all be used to respond to the special needs of these students. Descriptions of each of these alternatives will be developed and be made available for access/distribution in the District.

Gifted and talented students will also have their needs met in the regular classroom. The classroom teacher has the major responsibility for working with these students. Strategies available to the individual classroom teacher for integrating and differentiating within the regular classroom curriculum include enrichment, curriculum modification, various instructional strategies, curriculum compacting, learning centers, independent study and other methods that have traditionally been used by teachers.
