It is important to be cautious when a child complains of boredom. Numerous surveys have concluded that nearly all students are bored in school part of the time. It is important to look at legitimate reasons for concern. When the programming is appropriate, students may still be bored due to the following reasons:

• The class is not as exciting as a video game

• Students would rather be socializing

• The student does not like the group members

• The student is not comfortable with the teacher

• The student does not find the subject interesting

With that being said, the following causes of boredom may indicate that the programming is not appropriate:

• Student already knows the review material

• Student is able to learn at a quicker pace

• Student has already mastered the material

• Too much free time

• Class time is focused on struggling learners
